WHAT'S UP WITH PURPLEGANESH ?
To me, taking a photograph is a tumultuous visual celebration of a moment in time, one that is almost always followed by an afterparty.
Long before the shot comes the thrill of the encounter with oneself: staccato bursts of split-second decisions loaded with one's own personal baggage of internalized, subjective, aesthetic preferences, all competing with each other. My party unfolds in unexpected moments--a gleeful shriek from an irreverential toddler, the smile of a nervous bride, the trajectory of a dancer defying the laws of physics, or even a blank piece of concrete wall at its moment of glory, when the rays of the of sun strike just the right balance with deep shadows.
The afterparty doesn’t happen immediately. The setting is very different. An anonymous seat in a café, a comfortable couch, or my work table, with a glass of wine and the music of my choice flowing through my intel processor. It is the moment where I call the shots while the camera takes the break, sifting through hundreds of images, trying hard not to ignore those interesting wallflowers that, with a slightly different crop or mild alteration, become unexpectedly intriguing. The sheer joy of re-discovery.
I have no idea why visual artists are expected to have an about page. I love taking pictures and I do a pretty good job at it. Hire me . . let's party together.
WHERE DO YOU SHOOT YOUR DANCE PORTRAITS?
Individual and small group portraits are shot at my studio in Jamaica Plain (JP) in Boston. For larger dance photoshoots we may have to hire a dance studio separately at an additional cost.
WILL YOU TRAVEL?
Yes. Client pays for travel distances greater than 50miles from Boston, MA.
